A look into our shop…

I wanted to post a few pictures of our shop. We have been adding a lot of inventory and sprucing things up a bit.

I hope you like it!

Mannequin featuring Babylady Inc., Wovenplay, and Les Pompons De Violettes.

I decorated the area with Confetti System pinatas and used a simple moses basket to hold pillows.

I used a mix of new and antique furniture.

I am a bit obsessed with keeping everything neat and tidy.

Working Mama

Chapman and I going over line sheets.

I have been wanting to write a bit about being a working mom on here for a while now. However, between balancing the two stores and the two kids, I haven’t really had the time. (Shocking, I know) I’m going to get into it more in another post but for now, here is a little look at one of my trips to NYC for womens market week. One of my many responsibilities within my shops is to do a lot of the buying which involves visiting showrooms and pouring over lookbooks and pictures. I really do love my job and being a working mom is something I am really proud of but it certainly isn’t easy. Then again, nothing worth having is.

These pictures were taken by my friend, Adriana of Just By Living, who came along for the trip back in September. If you want to see more, I have been blogging over HERE for the last few months about each individual showroom we went to.

Working hard at the Fashionhaus Showroom

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last week but work has been really crazy. I just got back from a buying trip in New York for my women’s wear shop, Stel’s. For those of you who don’t know, I co-own a womens and mens store on Newbury Street in Boston. Stel’s has a blog and an online shop, as well. Being the womens clothing buyer means that I have to do a lot of traveling. It’s hard being away from my girls and I try to plan my trips so that they are as efficient and quick as possible. After years of doing them I have gotten pretty good at being organized and maximizing my time. Of course, this never makes it easy to leave my little ladies.

Whenever I get back I try to make sure I have set aside some extra time to spend with them. Every so often, Gemma in particular, will be a bit standoffish toards me at first. She usually warms up within an hour or so. Most times it is as if I never even left. I feel confident knowing they are in good hands with their father while I am gone and most times, don’t miss me to the extent of it upsetting them.

Do any of you travel for work? How do you handle it? How do your kids? How do you connect with them when your away?

I wanted to show off my shop a bit. I love the feel of the kid’s section. It’s very eclectic and I tried to make it a good mix of antiques and more modern furniture.  Displayed I have lots of pretty pillows, dress up clothing, and Confetti System pinatas. Keep in mind these picks are a few weeks old.  A lot of the product you see is long gone and we are currently restocking with all our Fall goodies!

If you are ever in Boston come visit me! We are at 334 Newbury Street and you can go HERE for more info on our hours and directions.

I am so excited for the next few months. We have BIG things happening here at Monkey & The Bug. Currently I am on a menswear buy in NYC for Stel’s but when I get back its time to start making decisions about what we will be featuring in Monkey & The Bug for Fall/Winter.
While at Playtime NYC, I was able to take a look at Esp No.1. I was instantly attracted to their stuff because its high quality and made with care. Each piece was buttery soft and the entire line is unisex! This means no matter what sex your children are you can still hand these pieces down making them an investment. Brilliant, no? Esp No.1 was started by a wife/hubby duo looking to create a line with the same sensibility they apply to their own style but shrunken down for the little set. I find the best kids lines tend to start with a very stylish designer who has started making babies and wants cool clothing for their littles. They always grow into companies with beautiful story lines and even better aesthetics.

This is a look at their Spring 2012 collection. I am dying over the denim jumpsuit, slouchy cardigans, and that shade of sea foam green is perfection! What are your favorite pieces?

I spend a lot of days working at our shop, Stel’s on Newbury Street. The weather here in Boston has been Spring like but with a bit of a chill so I prefer to dress in layers. Here, I am wearing pieces from our shop (you can find some online). Both the cardigan and tank are made of linen and the leggings have an amazing leather detail on them. They remind me of riding pants but with an edge. The Rachel Comey booties are super comfy and can be worn all year round.
